July 4, 2008 - Hawaii
I was so glad to read about the May 08 Hawaii Filipino Fiesta featured in our website. But I didn’t see any photos about the Santacruzan so I decided to share some in here. That was me as Reyna Esther! I won the event among 33 beauties paraded as queens. I became the first Miss Santacruzan and got awarded with a trophy and $300 cash. It was the first ever Santacruzan contest here.
It was Manang Lynn Viloria-Gutierrez who asked me to join. I envisioned to win so I was ready with my arch of all fresh flowers and matched with my Terna outfit. My whole family participated and we were the crowd's favorite as a happy family.
You can see the press release before the event at the FilCom website: http://www.filcom.org/pdf/

And just last month, I caught up with my former boss in Manila, Consul General of El Paraguay, businessman Jose Mari "Mayie" Delgado during their short trip in Hawaii from Guam just to play golf in the island, together with Consul General Ariel Abadilla of Hawaii and business mogul Ricky Delgado, Mayie's brother.
Ninong Mayie has been part of our life since I worked with him in Makati, 1987, and they were (with wife Suzie Laurel) one of our primary sponsors during our wedding. He had shared me great ideas, commendable works and pieces of advice.
It looks like there's quite a number of really good stories to tell from Hawaii. Let's get them told here. Thanks to all the leaders there especially Manang Gloria and Manang Lynne. I know that Manang Gloria has the touch to gather the Magsingalenos there when there are visitors from other places.
I remember the first time I went there, she gathered in a heart beat a group of Magsingalenos who I know for an instant get-together. She even drove us to the Del Monte plantation even if she doesnt know how to get there, hehe. Parang style Pilipinas na puede kang magtanong for directions, hehe. Thanks for always looking after us Manang Gloria every time we visit.
Armi,
Sorry for declining your dinner invitation that night pero alam mo naman that I always come to your parties whenever I am available.
I was able to watch Janet at Wowowee 'coz Imelda taped it for me. You were the fifth person to call me about watching the show because they have seen a fellow Magsingaleno with a BIG HEART. I am so proud of Jhanet and I told her about that kasi she has been an inspiration to me (being a cancer survivor) and my being inaanak sa kasal.
Hope you can post more pictures here ading.
Aloha Manong Dole,
That's correct! They are the Delgado brothers, owners of Citadel Lines, etc. and they just came from Guam as they bought Guam TelCo, did a short trip to Hawaii just to golf. See http://jgpo-guam-cmtf.blogspot.com/2008/03/delgado-buys- another-guam-telco.html
Indeed, it is an honor to be part of their "friends." Ninong Mayie Delgado even came to our house for a dinner during his trip as part of the Hawaiian Airlines "dignitary" fr Phils. We had dined in Waikiki w/ my husband Nestor, son VJ and me, but he insisted that he wanted to meet my other 2 kids so I asked him if he wanted to experience a dining for the Ilocano? So, we prepared "pinapaitan", dinengdeng parya/karabasa, steak, shrimps, ahi poke, tako poke, mussels, fish, pinakbet, pancit, oysters, taho, etc and all kinds of fruits. Gee, he said that he couldn't handle the "pinapaitan" and the "parya/karabasa." He enjoyed our stories and other food, though. See pictures together with my friends and relatives here in Hawaii such as Alma Caberto & Rod Baybayan, Rose Mendoza & hubby, Amelia Cabatu & hubby, Larry and Fely Farinas (uncle), Chulet Paco, Don Alvarez former Pres of Magsingal Assoc of Hawaii (fr Magsingal and my mom's 2nd cousin), Gigi Paz Ganal & hubby, The Paz family of Bantay, owners of JP Trans, Luchi Leodonez, Adela Espinoza, my brother Vicente Oliver & son Vince and others. Manang Lynn and Gloria Butac supposed to come but the event was an overnight decision, so they had other events at that night.
Manong Dole, are you the brother of Manang Agueda? Are you the funny Manong Dole before? Do you remember me, the skinny (before) small Armi or Brigida? If so, agkabagiantan sa!
Well, glad to hear from you Manong and your wife.
Best regards,
Armi
Armi was also the 2006 Mrs Hawaii Filipina for those who do not know.
Yes, We are proud of Jhanette's appearance on Wowowee's Hep Hep H and giving back her winnings to the needy and I was waiting for her to say something about Magsingal but only something like Ilocos Sur. But we are still proud of her and to Ewa Beach Hawaii where she is from.

I just want to share that JHANET UDANI-NAVARETTE was in WOWWOWEE Hep-Hep Horray today. She was the grand winner of P22,500 and she gave back her winnings to the children--contestants for Monday. Willie R was so impressed. Jhanet has a good heart. Way to go Magsinalenos!

Armi,
Yes, you all could kick me one time to the curb. Sorry..I was the one who reported the Fiesta Parade to MVP. Manang Lynne Gutierrez already scolded me about it (no pictures). Caleb, her grandson was one of the participant too.
Aloha and Happy 4th of July

Vic,
Speaking of Magsingalenos in Hawaii, I was at my sister's (Imelda) graduation at University of Phoenix - Hawaii Branch that was held at Neal Blaisdell arena and guessed who else graduated his masters in Criminal Justice, John Visaya Udani (son of Leonardo and Laring Udani). Most of the graduates yesterday are professional people taking up their masters and advancing their skills. It was a small reunion for some Magsingalenos at Blaisdell yesterday and we are so proud of them both. Pictures to follow courtesy of both graduates, ading. I did not bring my camera.
It has always been my pleasure to meet the fellow Magsingalenos who will come to Hawaii, ading.
